The International Conference on Coordination and Bioinorganic Chemistry (ICCBIC) has been organized biannually since 1964 by the Slovak Chemical Society (SChS) and Slovak University of Technology (STU) in Bratislava. It is the only regular scientific event in the field of coordination and bioinorganic chemistry in the Central Europe. The characteristic atmosphere of the Smolenice Castle helped to strengthen the professional relationships as well as the friendships between participants. Many top coordination chemists from all over the world have attended ICCBIC during the sixty years of its history, e.g. E.I. Solomon, J. Reedijk, A. Hauser etc.
Since 1993 the Book of Abstracts is regularly created containing reviewed contributions of the participants. List of Book of Abstracts:
ICCBIC has started as a Symposium on the Structure and Properties of Coordination Compounds held in Bratislava at the Slovak University of Technology (back then Slovak Technical University), and at the House of Scientific Workers of the Slovak Academy of Sciences at Smolenice Castle on 2-4 September 1964 in connection with the 8th International Conference on Coordination Chemistry (ICCC) in Vienna.
The symposium was attended approximately by 180 scientists and research workers from 18 countries. Three plenary lectures were delivered by:

R. S Nyholm (England): Advances in Complex Chemistry of the Early Transition Elements,

The 2nd Conference on Coordination Chemistry was held on 1-5 December 1969 and was attended by 80 participants. Eleven plenary lectures were presented at the conference including:

L. Cattalini (Italy): Some aspects of ligand substitutions at planar transition metal complexes,
U. Belluco (Italy): Platinum – olefin complexes. 3 A. V. Ablov (USSR): Binuclear copper compounds.
The 3rd Conference on Coordination Chemistry had taken place at the Smolenice Castle on 6-10 December 1971 and was attended by 72 participants. Ten plenary lectures were presented, including:

J. Bjerrum (Denmark): On bridged thiocyanate complex formation,
V. Gutmann (Austria): The role of coordination chemistry in a unified approach to chemical interactions.
The 4th Conference on Coordination Chemistry was held on 13-19 December 1973 and was attended by 57 participants. Twenty-nine plenary lectures were presented at the conference including:
J. Gažo (Czechoslovakia): Distortion isomerism of copper(II) compounds,
N. G. Bokii (USSR): Crystal structures of some organometallic complexes of tin and mercury,
P. M. Zorkii (USSR): Stereochemistry of metallocycles and intermolecular interactions in crystals of inner-complex compounds of copper and nickel.
The 5th Conference on Coordination Chemistry was held on 24-28 December 1974 and was attended by 80 participants. Twelve plenary lectures were presented at the conference including:

E. Uhlig (GDR): Elementenkomplexe als Katalyzatoren der stereospecifischen Dienpolymerisation,

The 6th Conference on Coordination Chemistry was held on 14-17 September 1976 and was attended by 75 participants. Ten plenary lectures were presented at the conference including:

L. I. Elding (Sweden): A mechanism for redox substitutions and related reactions in Pt(IV)/Pt(II)-systems,

The 7th Conference on Coordination Chemistry was held on 11-14 September 1978 and was attended by 86 participants. Fourteen plenary lectures were presented at the conference including:

The 9th Conference on Coordination Chemistry was held on 31 May – 3 June 1983 and was attended by 83 participants. Twelve plenary lectures were presented at the conference including:

The 10th Conference on Coordination Chemistry was held on 4-7 June 1985 and was attended by 96 participants. Thirteen plenary lectures were presented at the conference including:
